Guggenheim Museum, Helsinki, Finland

In 2015, I met Nicolas Moreau and Hiroko Kusunoki when they were preparing their winning proposal for the Guggenheim Helsinki competition. This anonymous international design competition saw over 1,751 entries and was regarded as one of the most important of recent years. It was organised by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, which also organised the seminal competition for the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, won by Frank Gehry in 1991.

Together, we worked on the acoustic and theatre design input of the main auditorium but also thought of the acoustic aspects of the wider building. In fact, the museum consists of several units which are separated acoustically ensuring hence a perfect sound insulation.

The external soundscape qualities were also considered.

Architect: Moreau Kusunoki

Acoustic Design: Theatre Projects

Role: Main acoustic designer
