Fontainebleau American Art Schools

When Music and Architecture meet

The American Art Schools of Fontainebleau celebrated the centenary of the faculty of music in 1921 and will celebrate the centenary of the faculty of fine arts in 2023.

Since its creation, the schools has provided summer programs of the highest quality in music and architecture to promising international students, some of them becoming notorious in their professional careers.

Over the years, the faculty has included famous musicians such as Maurice Ravel, Yehudi Menuhin, Arthur Rubinstein, and Leonard Bernstein, and the music school program has influenced many composers such as Aaron Copland, Phillip Glass, and Quincy Jones, amongst others.

Since 2018, my role as a tutor has been to bring together the students of the music and architecture faculties working alongside professional architects, set designers, curators, sculptors, photographers and mysefl acoustician as part of the architecture faculty.

The lecture I provide is entitled “When Music and Architecture Meet” and aims at bringing the music and architecture programs together with a historic journey of the architectural evolution of performing arts spaces dedicated to music, opera and drama.

Bartlett School of Architecture, London

Between 2002 and 2006, I was a tutor to final year students at the Bartlett School of Architecture helping them deliver their performing art related projects.

My role was to help them specifically with acoustic design considerations.
