Labyrinthes
(Tribute to Jorge Luis Borges)
A collaboration with Diana Orense Fuentes (2013)
The symbolism is the labyrinth of life, the labyrinth present in our heads. The idea that life is just a series of choices, a labyrinth without walls in our heads. All his lives resonate in unison before blending into a single celestial vibration.
As part of Diana's graduation project at the Camondo School of Interior Design in Paris, I asked her to make a sound version of her work on the Labyrinths of Jorge Luis Borges, the famous Argentine writer.
After recording a particular passage of one of the short stories, the voices of 7 women (French, Spanish, Scottish, German, Chinese, Russian and Italian) are convoluted to infinity in a reverberation before blending in unison.
This sound work is also a tribute to Alvin Lucier and "I'm seating in a room".
